Ferris for Fall

An Ode to Jennifer Lawrence

Resolutions

Bella Hadid is the daughter of former model Yolanda Hadid Foster and real estate developer and architect Mohammed Hadid, so it’s no surprise that she has both looks and creative style. The busy 17 year old is also a top equestrian competitor, blogger and model. After following her instagram for several months she’s become somewhat of a style inspiration to me, her off beat and eclectic combination of old & new create her unique look. Bella’s staple items include a denim jacket, tube tops, Doc Martens, striped t-shirts and 90s accessories. She effortlessly mixes thrift shop and designer, that sets a laid back nostalgic tone to her outfits, that’s definitely a style to be admired. Here are a just few of my favourite outfit picks…

Rumours are ripe with the possibility of an Absolutely Fabulous film, unfortunately nothing’s been officially confirmed yet and it’s looking unlikely anything will materialise. But the internet buzz has caught my attention nonetheless and more specifically the possibility of Edina and Patty’s bold and daring wardrobe choices reappearing on the big screen. Although most of Ab Fab went over my early teenage head, their endless array of fearless 90s outfits never failed to impress and inspire me. So here’s a selection of my favourite Absolutely Fabulous attires, that have rekindled and reminded me of my love for headscarfs & fur.

Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much everything right now. She first appeared on my radar after the Hunger Games film, it then clicked that she was Mystique (the naked blue woman) in X Men, and I have to confess I was a little apprehensive about admitting my love for her to begin with. Her whole disregarding attitude to dieting was something i’d heard from many celebrities and respected women before, often claiming they eat junk food ‘all the time’, when in reality it’s a yearly occurrence. So I was less than forthcoming with my admiration for her whilst trying to suss out if it was a front or PR spin. But this girl seems the real deal, i’ve yet to mention her humour (which was never once doubted), her natural beauty, she additionally reads her fan mail and overall seems like a down to earth, genuine girl.

But her performance in American Hustle is sublime, for me stole the show and almost made Amy Adams seem irrelevant. Even managing to look good in acrylic nails, tashy hair and a wardrobe with everything in but taste, that left me leaving the cinema questioning if I myself should invest in some items simply because Lawrence still somehow looked so good.

With the 2014 only a couple of days away, the main topic of general conversation seems to be new years resolutions. Every year I trawl out the usual mundane vows, such as ‘too get into shape’, ‘do one good deed a day’ or just generally attempting to become a better and more well rounded person. These promises I try to follow through with each year should be an unconscious effort made, whether it’s a new year or not. So instead of wasting my pledges for 2014, i’ve created 3 alternative new year resolutions, that I might actually have some hope at keeping.

1. Learn to walk in heelsFrom the age of 15 up to 18 I was more than capable of walking in heels, but somewhere along the line something went wrong and I now resemble Bambi on ice whenever a heel of over 2 inches is attempted. Therefore my first resolution for 2014 is to re-master the talent of elegantly and effortlessly walking in heels.
2. To watch ‘the Disney films’As vague as it sounds, ‘the Disney films’ refer to the classics from childhood, such as Beauty & the Beast and Pocahontas, that somehow I skipped over and were never part of my growing up. It’s usually met with substantial shock or surprise when I divulge this information to anyone, so I think it’s about time to see what all the fuss is about.

3. Buy Bold
As my wardrobe is gradually beginning to mimic a grey scale pantone chart, I feel an appropriate solution is to buy one bold (even slightly eccentric) item a month. I’ll probably kick myself for this come 2015, when I look back and wonder ‘what was I thinking’ but for now an injection of excitement into my wardrobe seems like a wise resolution.

i-D Magazines latest video release has managed to cram a whole host of supermodels, including the likes of Miranda Kerr, Georgie May Jagger and Cara Delevingne, into 2.22 minutes for our viewing pleasure. The video re-creates some of i-D mags iconic covers, covering A to Z, from ‘Ask me’ to ‘Zip!’, with my favourites including Miranda at B, Lily at K and Sasha at U. The trademark i-D wink video was shot by Jérémie Rozan and Charlotte Stockdale and has got me hooked and if anything, slightly envious I can’t pull off a wink with anywhere near as much style.

My most recent of guilty pleasure comes in the form of an app called GirlsCamera and it’s one of those ‘so bad it’s good’ types. A plain old picture won’t suffice and most would agree that even instagram filters have become rather generic in the realms of todays social media. GirlsCamera is a Japanese photo editing app, that’s ever so slightly eccentric with the added thrill of a possible mixed response once shared, but above all it’s a pretty fun and a good way to procrastinate. Additionally the super stylish Phoebe Lettice is a big fan and is constantly using the frames & stickers, so for those who aren’t satisfied with their current camera roll selection, get downloading.
